Venue spotlight: Peterson House

News
Peterson House has long been one of our favourite venues here at JMFS, so it made sense to start this exciting new chapter of our Wedding Journal with an inside look at this rustic, sandstone-clad beauty. It sits at the gateway to the Hunter Valley’s renowned wine region and it is just HEAVEN.

Peterson’s experienced Event Manager and all-round lovely human, Eloise McDonald, gives us the details below!

Peterson House is a widely known and respected name, encompassing an award-winning restaurant, cellar door and wine club, production, and a thriving wedding department. Needless to say, it’s an incredibly diverse property – there are multiple, unique spaces to inspire and celebrate many different styles.

Ceremonies
The Chapel
With restored timber trusses, high ceilings, double sandstone blocks and a stunning chandelier, it wows everyone! Our chapel has fast become one of the most popular settings in the Hunter Valley to say ‘I do,’ housing more than 150 wedding ceremonies every year since it was built in 2018.

We also host outdoor ceremonies, and there are a few picturesque locations at Peterson House on offer for these. A romantic lakeside affair at dusk or a sunny afternoon garden party? The choice is completely up to you!

Reception
The House
Our Restaurant Cuvée only trades for breakfast and lunch, so it’s a warm, relaxed and very private spot for your evening reception. The vibes are quintessential Hunter Valley too – lots of exposed timber and gorgeous panoramic views of the entire vineyard. This space is perfect for between 20-140 guests (although ideally numbers are 60-80).

The Marquee
This is our pride and joy! What started as little more than a tent in a paddock is now a grand, permanent structure that hosts more than 90% of our wedding receptions – and it’s not hard to see why. It’s undergone multiple upgrades over the years, and lockdowns 2 and 3 gave us the opportunity to really sink our teeth in creatively.

Our Marquee has beautiful timber hardwood floors, draping, fairy lights, chandeliers, and air conditioning as standard. A brand-new outdoor entertaining and lounging area, toilets, a purpose-built function kitchen and the most dramatic, show-stopping sandstone staircase add to the appeal. Embellished with classic timber and whites, and with the option for any table layout, the possibilities are quite literally endless! Maximum capacity is 250 guests, with ideal numbers sitting anywhere from 80-180.

The Chapel

I think this is a super cool choice – something a bit different as well! It can be a stand-alone reception space, or we can flip it after your ceremony to the surprise of your guests. Capacity is slightly smaller than the other two venues (around the 100 mark), but it lends itself beautifully to much smaller, intimate celebrations as well.
